Alex Baker is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Warwick, he is a nationally recognised public engager and lead of the Baker Humanitarian Chemistry Group (https://alexbakerweb.co.uk/baker-hcg). The group is focused on creating and developing chemical solutions to humanitarian challenges impacting marginalised groups. We are primarily interest in polymer and carbohydrate solutions to understand and treat neglected tropical diseases such as snake envenomation. Alex’s background is in designing lateral flow diagnostics for the detection of analytes in rapid, robust, and low-cost formats. He worked on COVID-19 diagnostic design with colleagues in Physics, the Medical School, industry, and the NHS.
